What Is OpenCode?
OpenCode is an open source AI coding agent built by Anomaly for developers who want a flexible alternative to proprietary AI editors. The core experience can run as a terminal interface desktop application or IDE extension and works with a wide range of model providers.
One Agent Across Different Development Surfaces
Developers can open a project start an agent session ask for a feature or investigation and let OpenCode work with repository files and commands. Built in Build and Plan agents separate active implementation from safer read oriented analysis and multiple sessions can be run in parallel for independent tasks.
Bring Existing Models And Subscriptions
OpenCode supports a broad provider catalog including compatible local models. It can also connect selected existing AI subscriptions while optional OpenCode services such as Go and Zen provide curated model access for users who prefer not to manage every provider themselves.
Privacy Oriented Design
The project emphasizes that OpenCode itself does not need to store project code or context as a central hosted editor service. Actual data handling can still depend on whichever external model provider or optional OpenCode model service a developer chooses.

How to use
How To Use OpenCode
- Install OpenCode: Use the official install script package manager desktop download or supported editor integration.
- Open A Project: Run OpenCode from the repository directory or open the project in the desktop application.
- Configure A Model Provider: Authenticate with a supported provider connect an eligible subscription use an OpenCode model service or configure a local model.
- Initialize Project Guidance: Add relevant project instructions so the agent understands important conventions and constraints.
- Choose Plan Or Build: Start in a planning workflow when the task needs investigation or use the build agent when implementation is ready.
- Describe The Task: Give the agent a concrete engineering outcome and useful acceptance criteria.
- Review Permissions And Changes: Check commands file edits and generated code while the agent works.
- Test Before Keeping The Result: Run project tests inspect the diff and undo or revise any change that does not meet your requirements.
