About Be My Eyes

Be My Eyes provides visual assistance for people who are blind or have low vision. The service combines calls to sighted volunteers with Be My AI, an image-description assistant. These are complementary ways to get information: a person can request an automated description, ask follow-up questions or seek human help when a situation needs another interpretation.

Describing and discussing images

Be My AI accepts a photograph and returns a description that can be read through the app’s accessible interface. The Ask More workflow lets the user request a specific detail or add another picture. Images from other applications can also be shared into the description workflow. This supports everyday tasks such as understanding a photograph, inspecting the layout of a screen or reading visible text in an image.

The mobile app is designed to work with VoiceOver on iOS and TalkBack on Android. Volunteer calls provide a different kind of assistance through live video. During registration, users choose their role and primary language, and the app requests the permissions needed for calls. Volunteer availability and the opening hours of service-directory partners are not the same thing.

Mobile and desktop access

The official download page provides iOS and Android applications as well as Windows and macOS options. Desktop tools focus on describing screen content, images and documents. The personal applications are free, while services for businesses and workplaces have separate arrangements. Users should choose the official download for their device instead of an unrelated application with a similar accessibility name.

Important boundaries

An internet connection is required for Be My AI. Descriptions can contain errors, so they should not be treated as a reliable basis for medication doses, safety-critical decisions or other situations where a mistake could cause harm. The help centre also cautions against sharing sensitive personal or financial information. A trusted person or qualified professional remains appropriate for those tasks. Be My Eyes is most useful when the user can ask for clarification, compare the description with other context and choose human assistance when the image alone is not enough.
