Overview
Coding agents can edit repositories, run tools and prepare changes, but their interfaces and review workflows differ. These five examples illustrate documented approaches rather than a performance ranking. The guide omits unchecked products and unsupported benchmark claims.
## Claude Code
Claude Code handles software tasks such as bug fixes, tests and migrations. Anthropic describes steering and reviewing work through developer interfaces including a terminal and IDE. Give it a bounded task and review the resulting changes and test evidence. [Official information](https://claude.com/product/claude-code).
## Cursor
Cursor combines an AI coding environment with desktop and command-line workflows. Its official product evidence describes cloud agents using separate computers to build and test changes. The practical comparison is how easily a team can inspect, reproduce and review the resulting work. [Official information](https://cursor.com/).
## Devin
Devin is an AI software-engineering agent. Its official site describes cloud or local operation and browser-based testing while preparing pull requests. These are workflow capabilities, rather than a guarantee that every submitted change is correct or ready to merge. [Official information](https://devin.ai/).
## OpenAI Codex
Codex supports bug fixes, refactors, new features and code review. OpenAI describes cloud environments, parallel agents and browser or computer tools for verification. Teams should compare the proposed implementation and its evidence against their own requirements before accepting changes. [Official information](https://openai.com/codex/).
## Gemini CLI
Gemini CLI provides AI assistance from the terminal. Its official product evidence describes codebase questions and edits, workflow automation and extensions. It is a candidate for teams that want their coding assistance within an existing command-line workflow. [Official information](https://geminicli.com/).
Use a representative, bounded repository task to evaluate the workflow. Inspect the diff, reproduce tests and check how permissions and project context are handled. A vendor’s ability to run tests does not guarantee that the right tests were run or that a patch meets every requirement.
